ISDN
Back in the day, people who had this type of connection to the interwebnet became known as Low Ping Bastards, or LPB's due to the much lower latency that ISDN offered over analogue dial-up
Many of the early adopters of early BT ISDN services funded their habit by either selling non-essential organs like Kidneys or a lung to medical sciences or the black market, whichever gave the best value due to the extortionate costs of installing and using the services. These people also paid enormous amounts of money for Asuscom ISDN cards to reduce their ping farther in game.
Many early ISDN adopters also filed for bankruptcy after 6 months of gaming due to the extreme costs incurred as "call charges" from the amount of time they spent online, normally amassing such bills as £3000 in one quarter.
